Kentucky School Student Athlete Sues His Alma Mater

Heat can be hard on student athletes, marching band members, and the like during the summer, and one cross county standout from St. Xavier High School in Louisville is suing his school over hot conditions. 

Cooper Marchal, who graduated just this past spring, is suing St. Xavier claiming negligence over a practice last summer when he suffered heat stroke and he was hospitalized and put in a medically-induced coma.

That morning's practice, according to the lawsuit, included a 12-mile run at a time when Louisville was under a heat advisory which would indicate the heat index could be over 100 degrees.

The suit asks for compensation for past and future medical costs, pain and suffering, emotional and mental distress, lost wages, future earnings and "loss of enjoyment of life".

The practice also took place after the KHSAA-mandated "dead period".
