The end of the summer season is here and the Kentucky State Police will be increasing their patrols this Labor Day weekend. They will be actively looking for DUI offenders.

The national campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, will run through Labor Day with the goal of reducing deaths and injuries caused by motorists impaired by either alcohol or drugs. During the Labor Day holiday last year, there were seven fatal collisions resulting in the deaths of ten people on Kentucky roadways. Four were either alcohol or drug-related. There were no fatalities reported in the Post 16 area (Daviess, Henderson, Union, Hancock, and Ohio Counties).

This year's Labor Day enforcement period will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday and will continue through Labor Day/Monday at 11:59 p.m. In addition to statewide DUI enforcement, KSP will conduct traffic safety checkpoints. Special attention will be paid to occupant protection (seatbelt/child restraint usage), vehicle safety, and insurance compliance/registration violations.

Citizens are encouraged to download the new KSP mobile app which allows individuals to report criminal activity confidentially, search "KSPOLICE" in the App Store or Google Play, or individuals can call the KSP toll-free number, 1-800-222-5555. Users can also download the DriveSober KY app in case he or she needs a ride home.
