The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet breathed a sigh of relief this morning as crews working roads in the Commonwealth were happily surprised at the pavement conditions.

Road temperatures were at or near 32 degrees this morning and the accumulation totals were lower than anticipated for this winter storm.

The KTC would, however, like to remind everyone that there are still slick spots out there and to be careful in your travels.

But to echo their relief, I was pleased with the conditions of some of the Owensboro streets that I expected to be a lot worse than they were.

And, of course, credit there goes to our street crews who got out and did what they do so well before all this got started.

Now, if you have yet to travel in the winter weather there are some sites you should explore before doing so.

Snow Priority Maps can be accessed at www.transportation.ky.gov. Just click on maps at the top and find your home county on the menu on the right side of the page.

If you're looking for timely traffic advisories, go to www.facebook.com/kytcdistrict1 or www.facebook.com/kytcdistrict2 depending, of course, on the district in which you live or in which you will be traveling.

Be careful!
