Kentucky Voter Registration at All-Time Record High

A while back, we told you about Kentucky's low voter turn out on Election Day, however, we learned Thursday, Kentucky has a record number of registered voters. Huh?

Despite the division and the choice of candidates, more than 3.3 million voters are registered to vote in Kentucky on November 8. The number has increased by 50,000 since the primary elections. According to Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes, over 100,000 have registered since March due in part to the state's new online voter registration system.

Breaking down the numbers, 44,712 new voters registered as Democrat while 46,328 new voters registered as Republican. Overall, the Republicans have gained over 77,000 voters compared to just over 11,000 for Democrats since the 2015 general election. The main reasons for the changes, switching parties and leaving the state. Grimes says absentee voting so far is higher than it was for the 2012 presidential election.

In addition to electing a new President, Kentucky will also be voting on whether Senator Rand Paul will retain his seat in a battle with Democrat Jim Gray. U.S. 2nd Congressional District Republican Representative candidate Brett Guthrie has no challenger on November 8.
