Large Portion of Western Kentucky Deemed ‘Hot Seat’ for 2017 Solar Eclipse Viewing

When I was a little kid, we had some type of eclipse and it freaked me out. Being raised in a Baptist church, well, I just thought it was the second coming. And then, later, in a college astronomy class that had no business being as dull as it was, I learned exactly what they were and how best to view them.

Well now we've learned WHERE best to view the solar eclipse that will occur on August 21st, 2017.

We're talkin' the best place on THE PLANET!

IT'S JUST DOWN THE ROAD in Christian County.

That is right!

It has been determined that the best stretch of earth from which to view this rare astrological event is the 140 miles between Carbondale, Illinois and Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

And folks will traipsing here from all across the globe to view it.

This is really cool.

According to Rob Milner, the manager of the Golden Pond Planetarium at Land Between the Lakes, it has been a very long time since a solar eclipse was visible from this wide a swath.

In fact, he called it the "hot seat."

Hopkinsville figures to be in the dark the longest at 2 minutes and 40 seconds.

Consequently, plans are in the works to welcome an onslaught of tourists long about late summer 2017.

So grab a camp chair and head down the Pennyrile when the time comes.
