All good things eventually come to an end.  And at least one popular feature of Daviess County High School is being removed this summer due to an ambitious renovation and expansion project. Remember that amazing mural in choir room?  After this summer, it will be a fading memory as the school is undergoing a makeover.  But, luckily, we have these photos to help preserve them!

If you've ever stepped into the lobby at Daviess County High School, this photo will bring back instant memories of the floor.

I don't know how many times my friends and I have walked across that amazing tile representation of Daviess County that was, in so many ways, a key signature and welcome mat at Daviess County High School.  We trekked across it to go lunch every day.  If we went to a basketball game or pep rally, we walked across it.  If we needed to make a deposit in or withdrawal from the school bank, our feet were planted on it.  Heck, we even learned our choreography to "Beauty School Dropout" in Grease on it.  I graduated from DCHS way back in 1989, but I can still picture that lobby floor .  And I can still picture walking into the lobby the first day of my freshman year.  I had no idea what the school had in store for me and for my classmates.

And, if you ever spent any time at all in Shelia Miller's or Candy Miller's choir room, you'll remember this mural . . .

I can't tell you how many hours of my high school career (and beyond) were spent in that classroom . . . on those risers and under that mural.  The choir room is undergoing a complete renovation, redesign and expansion and the risers and mural are being permanently removed.  The room is getting new walls, floors and ceilings.  For those of us who loved that room, that mural will be sorely missed.  It was, honestly, a visual imprint of our music education at that school.  It was just as much a snapshot of our high school experience as our yearbooks, our senior photos and our Memory books (remember those?).

But, starting in Fall of 2015, a new generation of students will take hold of a brand new choir room, a renovated lobby, a new band room where the old drama room was and a new drama room where the old band room was and, yes, a remodeled cafeteria. You know how many chicken sandwiches and milkshakes I consumed in the old one?  The students are going to embrace these changes and these new classrooms and start to build their own memories around them.

I loved Daviess County High School (and still do).  A lot has changed since I graduated in 1989.  Well, at least in terms of the appearance of the school.  But the thing that hasn't changed is the amazing experiences its students have within its walls.  And I suppose that's the point.  At the end of the day, or the semester, it doesn't matter what the walls or the floors of the school look like or where the classrooms are. The true Daviess County High Experience comes from the students, the faculty and Panther tradition.  That will live forever!
