I've said for a long time that there's little point in trying to fool anyone on April Fool's Day, since everyone would be expecting it...then I got fooled. And a tip of the hat to the pranksters in question. I also want to tip my hat in another direction on this day.

That would be the website underdogdynasty.com.

They have published a thoroughly convincing blog about the University of Kentucky dropping its football program after the upcoming 2015 season.

Writers Nicolas A. Lewis and Will Butler have seriously done their homework by including quotes from athletic director Mitch Barnhart; expense and expenditure charts, both real and suppositional; and a link to an actual Kentucky Kernel piece about financial troubles surrounding the Kentucky football program, albeit from 2012.

It's a terrific, well-written blog.

But it absolutely MUST be hogwash. For starters, it's something outlandish that was published on April Fool's Day.

Plus--and this is the big one--Kentucky wouldn't be able to stay in the SEC, or be accepted into too many other conferences, were it not to have a football program.

So...nice try, Underdog Dynasty.

VERY nice try.
