I was going to write this nice little blog about who I think ought to be the next head basketball coach at the University of Louisville, and, lo and behold, they've scheduled a meeting with him.

I have actually been on Xavier coach Chris Mack's bandwagon since last fall when Rick Pitino was dismissed, but the season had to play out with interim David Padgett and for Xavier, too, which Mack coached to the school's first ever #1 seed.

Please ignore the Musketeers' second round loss to Florida State. Chris Mack is the real deal!

He has coached Xavier to at least one NCAA Tournament win in eight of the last nine seasons.

In four of those seasons, the Musketeers went to the Sweet 16 and last year, the Elite Eight.

I say, with a powerhouse blue-blood program like Louisville at his disposal, the sky's the limit.

If he can get the kind of players he got at Xavier, he can hit home run after home run at U of L.

I'd love to see Mack and John Calipari go head to head every year. Two great coaches. A great rivalry that NEEDS to remain relevant; there were those (myself included) who worried about that after Pitino left.

By the way, in terms of regional interest, Mack played two years at the University of Evansville and his wife is from Louisville. On top of that, he and his buddies like to do weekend getaways at Nolin River Lake, just a stone's throw from the tri-state.

He LOVES the Commonwealth. Heck, he already lives here...just across the river from Cincinnati.

As a coach, I just think Chris Mack is a superstar in waiting. So why not transform INTO that superstar at Louisville?
