You know the old sayings "You can't see past the end of your nose" or "You can't see the forest for the trees," right? Maybe that's us, when it comes to these incredibly welcome low gas prices.

I'm pretty sure it's me...most of the time.

The other day, like many of you, I purchased gasoline for $1.49 a gallon.

ONE. DOLLAR. AND. FORTY-NINE. CENTS!

I was partying like it was 1999.

However, in the back of my mind, I wonder about the other shoe dropping.

And, maybe, it is just a little.

According to WLWT-Cincinnati, several highway projects are on hold because Kentucky's motor fuel tax, which is a heavy contributor to the road fund, has been producing a much lower yield, naturally, because gas prices are so low.

The report goes on to say that, in fact, gas tax receipts for fiscal 2017 are expected to be dramatically below this year's amount, like in the neighborhood of tens of millions of dollars lower.

Some of the projects for which these dollars are earmarked include the construction of an Ohio River bridge in Henderson, improvements to the Purchase Parkway in Western Kentucky for its conversion to Interstate 69, and a Natcher Parkway upgrade from Bowling Green to Owensboro so as to establish an interstate spur route (something near and dear to MY heart).

These projects are much-needed, to be sure, but I have to wonder how many of us are going to now grimace when we're only paying a buck-fifty-five at the pump.
