While it's true that Luke Bryan's music has been the target of some criticism, he's not alone. During their breakthrough periods, artists like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Garth Brooks, among others, also faced a certain amount of scorn.

And Luke has brushed it off, which is what you have to do.

But his comments during a recent interview about "outlaw country" and some things he said in close proximity to mentioning Willie, Merle, and Waylon have created some controversy.

First of all, let me say that I believe everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. I've never been and never will be that guy who believes people who say things with which I disagree should keep quiet.

And I feel the same way about what Luke said with regards to the kinds of subjects he has no interesting in covering in his music.

Again, he's perfectly entitled to his opinion.

But sometimes you hear someone say something and you just know there will be those who will fire back.
