Looking for a Christmas activity to do with children? How about a Polar Express Party? Put on your pajamas and make a candy train and then watch the movie together. I have borrowed this activity from a Polar Express party planned by Nicole Murphy at our church. She combined this train with a viewing of the movie and some hot chocolate and snacks, coloring and activities. Use your imagination to think of things to do that are like the movie.

Candy Train

Supplies;

  • 1 pack of gum, small pack that has 5 long sticks of gum. (Dollar General Store always has these for 35 cents each or a multi-pack).
  • 1 roll of Life Savers Candy (More than one child? Purchase Story Book Lifesaver).
  • 1 Hershey kiss (one bag of kisses).
  • 1 Rolo chocolate candy (by the roll or a bag of Rolo).
  • 1 mini Hershey bar (The bag that has Milk Chocolate, Mr. Goodbar, Special Dark, Krackle).
  • 4 peppermint discs for wheels (a bag of discs).
  • A glue gun and glue sticks

1.Place a long line of glue on the flat side of the gum pack.

2.Attach the roll of life savers with one end aligned with the end of the gum pack. The hanging over part of the candy roll is where the conductor sits in the train.

3.Glue the kiss UPSIDE DOWN at the end of the candy roll that is equal to the end of the gum. Hold it for about 7 seconds while the glue dries. This is the smoke stack!

4.Now glue the Rolo candy UPSIDE DOWN onto the hanging over end of the life savers roll. opposite the kiss. Now glue the miniature Hershey bar of your choice onto the Rolo as shown in the picture.

Your train is almost ready! now glue each of the "wheels" in place. Glue on 4 peppermint candies as show in the picture and let the fun begin.
