A combination of good weather, great location, and a community that always cares could explain the overwhelming turnout for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in downtown Owensboro yesterday afternoon. Very inspiring. Also inspiring was the number of participants wearing the "survivor" sashes. I've had the pleasure of speaking to some of them in the past at various events. Their stories never cease to amaze. Starting at English Park and walking through downtown was a great idea.It was far more scenic, especially at Second and St. Ann--the site where incredibly detailed murals honoring notable women from the community who have survived breast cancer or whose lives were cut short by the dreaded disease were sketched in chalk on a large wall. An estimated 3000 walkers were on hand to show their support and $48,000 was raised. Sensational! It was an awesome day and another awesome showing from a community that consistently and constantly gives back.
