On this date we have no Country birthdays to celebrate but it was not an uneventful day in the lives of Josh Turner, Kenny Chesney, Kenny Rogers and Connie Smith.

In2008, Taste of Country artist Josh Turner finds gold -- a gold single for "Would You Go With Me", his first big hit. You can see Josh along with Josh Thompson, Steve Azar and Glenn Templeton, September 10, at Ellis Park. Get $25 tickets here or at WBKR studios, 3301 Frederica Street.

Five years ago tonight Kenny Chesney plays the Boston, Massachusetts area -- Gillette Stadium in Foxboro and sets a new record for a country show. $4 millions dahluhs (that’s Bostonian for dollars)!  Look who else was on the show -- Dierks Bentley, Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich and Carrie Underwood. WBKR presents Kenny in concert August 7.

July 16, 1983, Alabama gets as close as you can to #1 – in fact, it was #1 -- "The Closer You Get" .

Kenny Rogers makes his film debut in the 1982 movie "Six Pack." The movie includes his single "Love Will Turn You Around" and a featured performance of seventeen year old Diane Lane. As you can see the years have been kind.

And, finally my favorite of the day. On this date in  1964, Connie Smith recorded Bill Anderson’s "Once A Day" in Nashville's RCA Studio B where so many great Country songs were born. I believe Connie Smith has the greatest female Country voice of all time. I don’t place anyone above her. And, "Once a Day" was my father's favorite Country song.

From this 1965 TV appearance watch the lovely Connie belt it out.

Then, watch her and Martina McBride perform it on the Grand Ole Opry stage in  2008.

Be sure and read all the comments and then do yourself the  biggest favor and cruise around youtube.com for the rest of Connie's videos.
