We learned yesterday that the possibility existed that Owensboro's venerable landmark, Gabe's Tower, was being looked at as a potential living facility for veterans.

Well, 14News/WFIE is reporting that Ron Georgette, the head of a veterans resource center based in Bowling Green, wants to do just that.

Georgette is the founder of Operation Stand Down Kentucky, a veterans service organization created to address the needs of "our nation's most vulnerable veterans i.e. mental health, drug & alcohol, physically incapacitated veterans."

And, in fact, he would like to make Gabe's Tower the headquarters for OSDK.

He also detailed what a partnership with Kentucky Habitat for Humanity and the Kentucky Housing Corporation would mean for veterans with regards to his plans for the tower.

14 News goes on to say that Georgette's plans include the provision of affordable housing as well as transitional housing. He's also focused reintegration services, assisted living, and hospice care.

Gabe's Tower is currently owned by Bob Zimmerman.
