A couple of Saturdays ago, Owensboro Technical and Community College hosted the Grant Talbott Memorial 5K. Little did I know, I would be involved with at least the pre-race hub bub. I was assigned to help out this guy/girl.

Yes, for the first time in my life, I was privy to what goes on behind the scenes with the Big Red mascot costume. I helped he/she get the suit on, and it's not easy; he or she must be able to make Big Red's mouth move, so the head must be coordinated with body properly. And that's the important part, all of the ladies and gentlemen who have donned the Big Red suit are sworn to secrecy. However, I do know of at least one person who has portrayed the big guy/gal in the past. I know nothing! Forget you read that!

When we got Big Red all ready, we had to make a short drive across the street to OCTC. I can now say Big Red was the most unusual passenger ever in my car. So, we disembarked and we started greeting all the runners/walkers. Oh, and the real reason I was with Big Red, he/she can't really see, so I had to serve as a guide.

They got the music going and Big Red cut a rug, or the pavement. And, Dave Spencer posted a video featuring the OCTC Cobra? Here's Big Red trying to steal it, well, pose with it.

I guess the most amusing part of our brief trip, my phone rings, and it's Chad. He asks why I'm not at work, and I said it was my day to work at school. He then mentioned I was dressed accordingly with Big Red; he was right behind me! His nephew Jacob was participating in the 5K.

This was a lot of fun and I wish it could have lasted a little longer. What am I going to do with all of Big Red's secrets?
