National Weather Service Issues Winter Weather Statement for the Tri-State Later This Week [UPDATE]

Winter Is Coming Meme

UPDATE: The National Weather Service in Paducah has officially issued a Winter Storm Watch for the entire Tri-State area beginning Thursday evening.

If the forecast holds true, the entire Tri-State area will be feeling the wrath of Winter Storm Cleon beginning late Thursday night.

Spreading across nearly the entire middle part of the country as it travels from northwest to southeast, Cleon is expected to drop two feet of snow in the Colorado Rockies, anywhere between five and eighteen inches in North Dakota and Wisconsin, and has claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman in Montana after she was involved in a four vehicle crash as a result of the storm.

The forecast for the Evansville-area isn’t as dire, however it could cause serious travel problems if what is expected to happen actually happens.

According to a Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky updated Tuesday morning at 4:45am, rain expected during the day on Thursday will transition to freezing rain, sleet, and possibly slow during the overnight hours heading into Friday morning before another wave hits during the day Friday. Both the National Weather Service and local meteorologists are hesitant to predict actual accumulation amounts, due to what they say is a complex and ever-evolving system. What they can all agree on is that some sort of wintry precipitation mix will take place during that time that will impact travel on Friday morning.

At this time, our annual 911 Gives Hope for the Holidays Toy Drive will take place as scheduled beginning at 6am Friday morning from the east side WalMart. However, plans may be tweaked if necessary.

Keep listening and checking back here at the website for more info as it becomes available, and get yourself prepared in the event you lose power or find yourself unable to leave your home due to icy roads.
