The two reasons given for the new design for Kentucky driver's licenses, to premiere in 2019, are 1) a modern look and 2) increased protection.

I appreciate the first one. We desperately always need the second one.

Seriously, a gray background with my picture and the pertinent numerical info would be just fine as long as the security end of the deal is ramped up.

But they'll look like this:

And according to WYMT/Hazard, when you renew your license in 2019, you'll be given the option of having a standard license or a voluntary travel ID.

Also, you'll notice that the photos will now be in monochrome instead of color and they will last eight years instead of four.
