Gun owners can now openly carry their weapons in Kentucky. State lawmakers passed a bill, earlier this week, that permits unconcealed weapons to be freely brought into city run facilities like libraries, parks, city hall and city council chambers.

Supporters of this law are pleased with the state’s decision to support this bill. "I believe that it’s good," said a Covington resident. "I believe that people should have the right to carry to protect themselves."

With the bill having been signed into law last April by Governor Steve Beshear, county officials no longer have the right to make up ordinances to control firearms – any attempt on behalf of local governments to ban guns is now illegal.

However, some local officials say that regardless of what kind of legislation is put into power, they are going to continue to do what is necessary to protect the safety of law abiding citizens.
