New to theaters this week: a cops-and-corruption thriller, Ah-nuld's return to his roots and a freaky-looking horror piece about—what else?—creepy kids. A little light on the comedy and family fare, perhaps, but an intriguing mix nonetheless.

'Broken City'

When the mayor asks a cop to do him a favor, then double-crosses him, it's time for a mishmash of politics, corruption, sex and revenge—with a pretty darn good cast, too.

Directed by Allen Hughes

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jeffrey Wright

'The Last Stand'

When a high-value federal prisoner escapes and makes a dash for Mexico, it's up to Sheriff Schwarzenegger and his team of locals to stop him—to make the last stand against him, you see. Anyway, good to see Arnold returning to the bang-bang/explosion/one-liner formula that made him a superstar in the '80s.

Directed by Kim Jee-Woon

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Johnny Knoxville, Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman

'Mama'

A young couple must raise a pair of young girls who were left alone in the woods for five years. It soon becomes clear that something very unusual is going on—what exactly happened in that forest ... and who else was there?

Directed by Andy Muschietti

Starring Jessica Chastain, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Megan Charpentier, Isabelle Nélisse
