I am in love with this story and this horse. The 143rd Kentucky Derby is about a week away and one horse will compete with a pretty noticeable disadvantage. Meet Patch, the one-eyed Derby contender.

Todd Peltcher, who won 2010 Derby with Super Saver, is Patch's trainer. Patch, who lost his eye in a training accident early in his career, is one of the long shots next Saturday and he only has one win, but he will be one of the most-talked about contenders. As of this writing, the favorites going into this year's Derby are Classic Empire, Always Dreaming (trained by Peltcher), and Irish War Cry.

Go Patch!
