Were you that little boy or girl who always wanted to be a policeman when you grew up? Has that dream never gone away? Maybe you have always been curious about the inner-workings of our police department. Well, the Owensboro Police Department has a great opportunity for you!

The 2013 Citizens Police Academy will begin in August and OPD is currently accepting applications. I've always been interested in the criminal justice system (heck it was my minor in college) and this sounds like so much fun to me!

The Citizen’s Police Academy is a 12 week long class that will meet at the Owensboro Police Department for three hour sessions one night each week, and is designed to give insight into the day-to-day operations of the Owensboro Police Department. It is scheduled to run from August 22nd to November 7th.

Members of the department will be your presenters and may discuss course topics such as:

• Tour of OPD Headquarters

• Patrol Operations

• Hiring Process

• Training

• Accreditation

• Professional Standards

• Criminal Investigations

• Polygraph

• Narcotics

• Hazardous Material Recovery

• D.U.I. – portable breath test/intoxilyzer

• Arrest/Handcuffing Procedures

• Officer Safety
