Things are hopping on Airport Road in Owensboro. Or, at the very least, they soon will be when the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport takes on its new tenant and adds a fire station.

According to AviationPros, we can look for a "flight campus" to be added to the airport grounds by Apus Air.

Apus Air is an American-based company that trains pilots for Chinese airlines.

The target completion date for this campus is sometime in July with the training of pilots to being a month later.

And speaking of training, the plan is to train somewhere between 150 and 200 pilots a year at the new facility.

Plus, there will be dorms to house the students.

As for the fire station, the one that's already there has been there since 1973 and needs to be replaced.

The Federal Aviaton Administration will foot the majority of the bill for the new, more modern facility which will feature 18-foot wide stations, which is a step up from the 12-foot wide stations currently in place.
