St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is one of my favorite places in the world. It is a place of hope for children and their families that one day, childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases will be a thing of the past. St. Jude makes sure that patients have everything they need to fulfill their dreams!
On Thursday night, during the NFL Draft, one patient will get to experience an amazing dream come true!
Owensboro's Kennedy McCollam, who was so impressive when she sang for us during the 2013 St. Jude Radiothon, has moved into the semifinals of the Kentucky Opry Talent Search. And she earned her spot there with this rousing rendition of Martina McBride's "Concrete Angel." This is beautiful!
Check this out! Malco Theatres has announced the lineup for this year's Kids Summer Film Fest! Last Friday, I drove to Wadesville, IN to visit the 3rd grade class at St. Wendel Catholic School. My friend Ryan Nowak teaches there and he asked me to come by and talk to his students about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. See, his students are doing a service project and, for it, chose to raise money for the patients of St. Jude. I decided to share some of my favorite St. Jude stories with the students and introduce them to some of my favorite St. Jude families. I knew this was a great way to show them the importance of what they're doing and how important raising money for the hospital truly is. Well, guess what? These 3rd grade rockstars got amped up and they went to the big Friday night fish fry with buckets in hand!
We are excited to announce you can win a 4-night stay in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. But what are you going to do when you get there? There's PLENTY to see and do - and included with your trip are two tickets to the Dixie Stampede! Join
This morning, Pyongyang (the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, commonly known as North Korea) threatened the United States with nuclear bombing in response to proposed sanctions on its nuclear programs due to recent warhead testing.
We didn't get a chance to talk about this last week because of our 2-day St. Jude Radiothon, but it is definitely worth revisiting. Check out Jenny Beth Willis' performance of "Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love" from American Idol's "Sudden Death" round in Las Vegas!
Okay, Gang! 9-year-old singing sensation Skylar Cain needs YOUR help. She is one of five finalists in a National Anthem contest sponsored by one of our sister stations in Evansville, WJLT. We have featured Skylar here at WBKR.com before and recently invited her to perform at our 2013 Denim & Diamonds fundraiser for St. Jude. This kid has some massive pipes and we want to help her win the contest so she can rock out "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Ford Center.
We thank our friends at Poole's Pharmacy Care for their support of St. Jude Children Research Hospital and the WBKR Radiothon. Not only for their advertising support, but also their contribution of $5000
