Radio Shack has been one of the handiest retail outfits that has existed in my lifetime. Working in radio, that makes sense. But the advancements made in technology over the last 20 years--and they've come at a far more rapid pace in the last 10--are rendering the electronics chain somewhat obsolete.

I saw a meme and I wish I could find it. I've been putting everything I could think of into a Google search and have come up empty.

But, anyway, the meme kind of illustrates the uphill battle Radio Shack has been facing over the last decade.

It's a picture of a lot of merchandise that Radio Shack has been famous for selling over the years.

And below the image is a phrase that reads something like, "And now all of this can fit into my pocket."

Indeed, music, our phones (obviously), television, movies, GPS, games...

You see where I'm going. And now you can probably see why nearly 1800 Radio Shack stores are slated for possible shuttering.

Sad, but, frankly, inevitable.
