Ranked by Fast Food, Kentucky Is 6th in the Nation…But It’s Not Exactly What You Might Think
When I was attending Western Kentucky University, we'd heard that Bowling Green had the second-most fast food restaurants per capita in the United States. A few years later, I heard a similar story about Owensboro.
Well, now there's a list of the fifty states ranked by their fast food establishments.
But it's not a list that's based on the number of fast food restaurants IN each state. No, there are actually 5 pieces of criteria the "panel of judges" used to determine these rankings.
For each state's score, it was about which large and regional chains began there--and, by the way, the "regional" tag can be placed on franchises like Culver's, Grandy's, Ritzy's, and the like--small chains that are only found in the state in question, variety, taste, and uniqueness.
And, whaddya know? Kentucky ranks SIXTH! A certain colonel all decked out in white has a little to do with it.
