While we've known for some time that now-former University of Louisville head basketball Rick Pitino won't be returning, it was made official today.

According to CBS Sports, the Louisville Athletic Association convened and unanimously voted to part company with Pitino for "just cause."

This happens in light of the FBI's investigation into a massive recruiting scandal in which, among others, Rick Pitino was allegedly involved.

Firing Pitino "for cause" means the university won't have to pay out the more than $40 million left on his contract.

U of L has promoted former assistant and player David Padgett to interim head coach.
