In Ohio County, there are a lot small towns and even smaller communities. I came upon an "Only in Your State" list a couple of weeks ago of the top 15 "Slow-Paced Small Towns" in Kentucky and Rockport, in the southwest part of the county right on the Muhlenberg Co. border landed at number three. I made a a little road trip and snapped some pictures.

This is the official welcome sign. It's pretty new. Why purple? Western Elementary is nearby and their school colors are purple and yellow, their mascot the tiger. The riverboat pays homage to the history of the city and its proximity to the Green River which is just down the road.

The tiny window and office at the end on the left is Rockport City Hall. I just found out my cousin Stephen recently took over as City Manager, he and his Mom and Dad, my aunt and uncle live in Echols, a small community right next to Rockport.

My Dad got the idea he would take us, Mom was in tow too, on his old bus route, which included crossing this old railway bridge. If you've ever been to Beaver Dam, there is a track at the edge of town and it's still being used.

It's rusty and it's covered in a little bit of graffiti.

The bridge you can see in the distance crosses over to Paradise and the Muhlenberg Co. line.

Another view of the bridge with maybe a small depot used for business?

I forgot to take a picture of the ramp. Dad said Jesse Byrd went to school with him. Dad will be 65 in October.

Another site on Dad's old bus route, he said this old building used to be a pool hall. A lot of the businesses in Rockport have been shut down for years. It's probably due to the bridge being built, and the parkway going in. River transport for goods wasn't needed anymore, at least in this part of Western Kentucky.
