Rolling Stone likes country music just as much as we do...so much so that the publication's list of the best 25 country songs of 2014 contains some pretty obscure cuts.

Yes, there are huge hits to be found by the likes of Eric Church, Sam Hunt, and Keith Urban. And there are ultra cool tracks that weren't hits but should've been by folks like Old Crow Medicine Show and Sturgill Simpson.

And then you have songs (which I will listen to when I finish this blog) by Candi Staton, a 70s R&B singer, and something called Hurray for the Riff Raff.

Yeah, that's the name of a country band.

I like the list. I like that Rolling Stone doesn't try to stoically uphold some principle that would prevent them from acknowledging great songs that were also big hits.

Believe me when I say, there are many critics who have such disdain for popular music that they will go out their way to name-check THE most arcane musicians you've ever heard of.

Anyway, take a look at Top 25 right here.
