Russell Johnson, Gilligan’s Island’s ‘Professor,’ Dies at 89 [VIDEO]

When I was in grade school, Gilligan's Island played every afternoon. And it was in front of the television where you'd find me parked for a half hour after I got home.

Well another member of that cast has left us. Russell Johnson, who played the Professor, has passed away at the age of 89. ABC News confirms his death came as a result of kidney failure.

Wow, that's now five members of the Gilligan's Island cast who are no longer with us. Jim Backus (Mr. Howell) passed away in 1989, Alan Hale Jr. (Skipper) in 1990, Natalie Schafer (Mrs. Howell) in 1991, Bob Denver (Gilligan) in 2005, and now Russell Johnson.

Dawn Wells and Tina Louise, who played Mary Ann and Ginger, respectively, are the last living Gilligan's Island cast members.

The Professor is no longer with us. Now, who's gonna show us how to make a nuclear reactor out of a couple of coconuts and some bamboo?
