Wake up early Owensboro and grab those running shoes and make a dash for O'Charleys on Fredrica on Saturday March, 17th at 7:15 am. This dash will help out a program with the Owensboro Walkers and Runner's Club by promoting health and activity for the community. There is a $15 admission fee for particpants; however, after the race you recieve a complementary breakfast. Participants running will recieve a free tee-shirt, and for the top 3 male and female runners a medal will be recieved, and also 15 or more door prizes will be drawn while all participants are running. Prizes ranging from free golf course round, free car wash, to a few sporting goods stores. This Dash started in 2008 and had 83 participants and for 2012 340 people are already pre-registered, but Owensboro Parks and Recreation are hoping to exceed 400. Speaking with Kerry Bodenheimer the Recreation Supervisor she said this dash "has grown tremendously throughout the past 3 years." To keep track of the runners times the Owensboro's Walkers and Runners club has a chip that is assigned to each runner at check in and the chip starts after crossing the start line and stops at the finish line. Check in is at 7:15 a.m. and close out is at 7:45, then the race begins at 8. All age groups are welcomed, and groups range in variables of 5 starting at 9-under, 10-14, so on up to 70 and up. The dash runs on the greenbelt, for 5k the turn around mark is at the social security office, and the 10k runs to Dairy Queen on 231 then turns around. So get stretched out and I hope to see everyone their making their run to eat some delicious breakfast.
