Last year I was introduced to a new festival. Well at least a new festival to me, this has been around as long as I have been alive. It is called South by Southwest. It covers technology, music and film. Since I am big into all three of these areas, I was surprised that I had never heard of this festival.

South by Southwest (or SXSW as they call it) is held every spring in Austin, TX. It features introductions of new technology, premieres of films and music, performances by major acts and up and coming acts, panels and more. Some of the major events last year included the premieres of 21 Jumpstreet and The Cabin in the Woods, introduction of social discovery apps, and an expanded music event which featured a keynote address by Bruce Springsteen.

SXSW 2013 kicked off yesterday with interactive and film. The music portion will kick off on Tuesday. The events will wrap up on Sunday the 17th. Some of the highlights visitors can look forward to this year include: John Fogerty closing the festival with a performance next Saturday; the premiere of several movies including: The Incredible Bert Wonderstone, Hawking, Spring Breakers, and When Angels Sing; and more (I would be willing to guess some really cool tech will be on hand as well!.)

I think this looks really fun and hope one day to actually go to the festival. But until then I will follow it online and keep up with the latest in music, tech, and film! And be sure to check back next week for a recap of the 2013 SXSW festival!
