Season Finale Preview: Ford EcoBoost 400

                After a controversial finish to last week’s Advocare 500K in Phoenix, only 2 drivers remain mathematically in contention for the 2012 Championship. Going into this weekend’s race at Homestead, Brad Keselowski leads the 5-time champion, Jimmie Johnson by 20 points. Kasey Kahne and Clint Bowyer, who find themselves in 3rd and 4th in point standings, are 50+ points back from the leader.

Weekend Preview: Advocare 500K

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be traveling west for this weekend’s Advocare 500K at Phoenix International Raceway. Sunday’s event will mark the 33rd Sprint Cup Series race at the Avondale, AZ track which held it’s first race in 1988. This will be the 3rd race for the series on the track after it’s resurfacing was completed last fall.

Weekend Preview: AAA Texas 500

After a weekend of bumping, braking and short track tempers at Martinsville, teams head to Texas for this weekend’s AAA Texas 500. This weekend will be the 24th Sprint Cup Series race for the Texas track, which opened in 1997. Four drivers have competed in all the races at Texas Motor Speedway, they are Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Bobby Labonte and Jeff Gordon.

 On a country music note, Juan Montoya’s car this weekend will be red-but not for his usual Target sponsorship but for Taylor Swift’s new album “Red.” The deluxe edition of her fourth studio album, Red, will be available exclusively at Target and Target.com nationwide on Oct. 22, just one day after the big race. His traditionally red racecar will be painted stark white with bright red detailing, and features the artwork from Taylor 's Red CD cover.

Following last week’s Sprint Cup Series homecoming in Charlotte, the series is back on the road this weekend for the Hollywood Casino 400. After Wednesday and Thursday test sessions, drivers and teams may be thinking like Dorothy and saying “We aren’t in Kansas anymore.”

Following a somewhat controversial pass for the win during last weekend’s Geico 400, the drivers and teams on the Sprint Cup Series head northeast to Louden  for this weekend’s Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. This will be the tours second stop at the “magic mile” this season. Kasey Kahne and the #5 team scored their 2nd victory of the season back in July.

Ever since the season-opening, Daytona 500 fans have heard drivers and teams talk about the “Chase for the Championship.” After 25 races, the touring series will make their 26th and final stop of the regular season, Saturday night in Richmond, Va. At the conclusion of Saturday night’s 400 miles, the field of 12 drivers will be set to battle for the cup.

Before we preview Saturday night’s race and the Chase, it has been a busy week for announcements in the Sprint Cup Garage. Last Friday, it was announced that Martin Truex, Jr. has re-upped with Michael Waltrip Racing and Napa Auto Parts for a 3-year contract extension.

It has been reported this week that Martin Truex, Jr. has agreed to a contract extension with Michael Waltrip and primary sponsor, Napa Auto Parts. A press conference that will include the unveiling of the 2013 paint scheme is scheduled for Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The details of the extension will also be announced on Friday.

After a weekend of both left and right turns, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will make their 2nd visit of the season at Michigan International Speedway, the sight of this weekend’s event. NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be trying to defend his title at Michigan after going to victory lane in the June event.

Last week’s winner, Marcos Ambrose set a qualifying record at the 2-mile oval in June with a speed of over 203 MPH. Since then, drivers and teams have returned to the track for a Goodyear tire test where NASCAR tested and developed a new tire for this weekend’s event. Speeds are expected to be slower this weekend due to the tire compound change and wear on the track’s repaved asphalt. Can he make it two in a row? Marcus told Fox News, “We really got a good shot at it there. We have to really concentrate on car speed”.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will make its 2nd trip of the season to the “Tricky Triangle” at Pocono in Long Pond, Pennsylvania for this weekend’s Pennsylvania 400. Joey Logano visited victory lane back in June after a late race battle with veteran, Mark Martin. This will also mark the 2nd trip since it was repaved during the off season.

Drivers and teams have had a busy week following Sunday’s race at the Brickyard. 28 drivers and teams visited the Michigan Speedway for a tire test on Monday. Top speeds at the end of the straight-aways topped 210 MPH with average speeds of 195 MPH. Tony Stewart took a break from the track and put developmental driver, Danica Patrick in his #14 Chevrolet in Monday’s test session. Danica continued her week of bad luck at the Brickyard when she made contact with the wall in the 2nd turn, early in the test session.

After a much deserved weekend off, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be making their 19th annual stop in Indianapolis Motorspeedway, known in NASCAR as "The Brickyard", for this weekend’s Crown Royal Curtiss Shaver 400. The track was built in 1909 but didn’t welcome NASCAR until 1992 when a small test session was held with NASCAR’s top teams.
