About a year ago, I visited The Grand Ole Opry and got to see, for the first time live, the Carolina Chocolate Drops. They opened their segment of the show with the original "Cornbread and Butter Beans" and they rocked it out. But then . . . they launched into a song that sounded VERY familiar to me. Then it hit me! "That's "Hit 'Em Style" by one-hit R&B wonder Blu Cantrell." I hadn't heard that song in years . . . and I had NEVER heard it quite like this. So, this week, because ROMP is just around the corner and the Carolina Chocolate Drops are coming back to Yellow Creek Park for the festival for the second straight year, "Hit 'Em Up Style" is my "Country-Fried" YouTube Cover of the Week. LISTEN!! They just hammer this song. It's funky, fresh and fried like, well, cornbread!
