Sunday's Indy 500 Will Be Missing Two Familiar Faces

Sunday's Indianapolis 500 won't be the same for a couple of reasons. Last year's winner, Dan Wheldon, tragically died last October as the result of a collision in a race in Las Vegas. And one of the sports biggest draws will be driving, but in a totally different series. Danica Patrick will miss this year's Indy 500 for the first time since her rookie year in 2005, which ironically is the same year Wheldon won his first 500.

We've lost alot of great people in tragic accidents either on the track or away from the track, and what really pulls at the heart strings, these professional drivers are just like you & me trying to earn a living doing what they love for their families, but their jobs are very very dangerous and on the track it just takes a split second for something to go terribly wrong. I was driving home from Frankfort on Sunday when I heard the tail-end of a news story about some horrible accident in Las Vegas. It sounded like another airshow crash. But then I learned that 33-year-old Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon had been killed in a 15-car pile up at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Another talented individual gone way too soon.
