Strange Super Bowl National Anthems [Video]

Today, the performance of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl is just as big a media spectacle as the half-time show and the game itself.  Huge stars are asked to deliver rousing renditions of "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the whole world watches to see if they mess up the words, lip-synch or perform live.  In the last few years, we have seen amazing renditions by Kelly Clarkson, The Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill and Jennifer Hudson.  Way back in 1993, even Garth Brooks stepped up and swung for the fences.  But, historically, there have been some STRANGE choices and some really bizarre renditions at The Big Game.  WATCH!

Well, this makes me feel old. Of course, the honor is richly deserved. It's just that I remember playing his debut single "Much Too Young" for the first time in 1989, and now Garth Brooks is an official member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Shoulda Been a Hit: Garth’s “When You Come Back To Me Again”

This week's Shoulda Been a Hit column is going to look a little different.  Normally, I include the official video for the song that I choose, but, given Garth's disdain for YouTube and ITunes, that's just not going to happen.  And, now, I know what you're thinking . . . "Garth Brooks had a song that wasn't a hit?"  He sure did.  It was "When You Come Back to Me Again," which peaked at a disappointing #21 on the Billboard Country Chart.  How on Earth was that possible?  The song had everything going for it.

Regina Regina Regina Howard, The WBKR Waking Crew's resident "nut," called in Monday morning to request a song.  She wanted to hear Scotty McCreery's version of 'The Dance" by Garth Brooks.  Regina said she heard him do a version of it at The Grand Ole Opry and it was "wonderful."  I hadn't heard it.  So, I did some research and found it!  This video was only uploaded to YouTube a few days ago and it has already become quite a smash on the web.  LISTEN!

Joan Rivers Hates Everyone . . . Including Country Stars

Joan Rivers new book, I Hate Everyone  . . . Starting with Me, is hilarious.  I picked it up because I wanted something fun and light to read while I was lounging by the pool on vacation.  And Joan delivered with 242 pages of raucous, laugh-out-loud one-liners.  In the book, Joan takes on virtually anything and everything you can think of . . . including country music stars, who get a big shout-out on page 155.  Wanna know what Joan says about them?

Crazy Covers of Garth Brooks’ “The Dance” [Video]

It's hard to believe really, but country music superstar Garth Brooks turned 50-years-old this week.   And The WBKR Waking Crew celebrated with a very special  "Tad" Poll on the WBKR Facebook page. We asked . . . What is YOUR favorite Garth Brooks song.  The overwhelming winner was 'The Dance!"  Now, I was fully prepared to post up a countdown featuring Garth performances of the top five vote-getters!  But you know Garth!  If he can't sell it at Wal-Mart you aren't going to get it!  So, since we can't nab video of Garth singing his biggest hit, I thought it would be fun to search the web for some whacked out covers of it.  And, oh dear Lord!  Look what I found!

Garth Brooks Turns 50

In 1994 when Garth Brooks was 32 years old, WBKR was doing a Garth-a-thon to bring Garth Brooks in concert and it payed off big time! Garth scheduled 3 shows at Roberts Stadium February of 1994.

The three shows sold out in one hour and 22 minutes, I was lucky enough to see Garth in concert back then and to this day it's one of the best concerts I have ever seen!

Happy Birthday Garth!
