The Kentucky Derby is just around the corner, and most of us can't be there, but the Owensboro Symphony Alliance and Orchestra has the next best thing. The 3rd Annual Juleps and Jockeys is set for this Saturday, May 5th aka Derby Day 4pm-9pm at the Hines Center in Philpot.

The Polar Bear Plunge was Saturday morning at The Hines Center in Philpot. And, for the second consecutive year, record crowds and participants turned out to raise money for and support Special Olympics Kentucky! 233 plungers walked the plank at the Hines Center lake and plunged into the chilly waters and, in doing so, they raised $55,000 . . . an all-time record for Owensboro's event. As you know, Jaclyn and I encouraged listeners (and a couple of fellow deejays) to join us in the effort. And, yep!! We've got video!!

The last two years, to help raise some money for the WBKR/WOMI Telecom Pioneers Christmas Wish program, we invited you to WINGS GONE WILD! This holiday season, WBKR has come up with an awesome, new event to help launch our fundraising season! That's right! We're taking a popular holiday game and super-sizing it! February is one my favorite times of the year here at WBKR. That's when we get to rally your support to help raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. For 26 hours over two days, we ask the tri-state to join us in the fight against childhood cancer. We introduce you various families who have had to hear those words, "Your child has cancer." Well, I'm quite sad to report that, last month, Jared Daugherty, a former member of the WBKR family, had to hear those words, "Your child has cancer."
