Kris Kristofferson, who we referenced in Country Stars Birthdays on June 22 celebrates a milestone today. He had the #1 song in Country Music in 1973, WHY ME, LORD? Future wife Rita Coolidge and aspiring singer Larry Gatlin provided backup vocals. Some say the song was Kris's way of protesting the decadence of the 60s and 70s, of which he was a participant.

Happy birthday to one of the great songwriters of our time -- Kris Kristofferson.
