When I was inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame in 2009 Merle Haggard was the guest performer. The folks that put the show together asked Merle several months beforehand to do the show. At first he wasn't well enough after having battled cancer. Then, he didn;t want to see a bunch of radio people, "Who don't play my music". Well, Merle, "These are the guys that DID play your music". After he was told that he agreed to come.

I'm glad because I'd been playing Merle's music since 1964. And, now he's on Twitter!

I have a friend who lives in Northern California who, like myself, is a classic country fanatic. So, I call to tell him about a free to the public David Frizzell concert and he fires back with a Haggard/Kristofferson one two punch. Not to reduce the value of the man who made hiring a wino to decorate a home country legend but to my friend Joseph...I will destroy you!

Blake Shelton is hosting a special on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio in which he selects his all-time Top 10 country voices. Currently, the list can only be found in alphabetical order, and I keep missing the special. I find the list very interesting. There are obvious choices like George Jones and his lovely wife, Miranda Lambert. I mean, come on, she has to be there, right? I kind of think she'd be on it anyway. But the reason the list is fascinating to me is the inclusion of Con Hunley.
