Miranda Lambert had some stiff competition at the 2012 ACM Awards, but that didn’t stop the fiery country songstress from taking the Album of the Year award at this year’s show in Las Vegas. Lambert won the distinction for her chart-topping 2011 album, ‘Four the Record,’ which boasts singles such as ‘Baggage Claim’ and ‘Over You.’
Last night on American Idol, our 9 remaining contestants sang songs by THEIR idols. Among the singers honored with cover songs . . . Idol 4 champion Carrie Underwood and former Nashville Star-contestant-turned megastar, Miranda Lambert. So, how did this season's crop of hopefuls do. Let's check in with WBKR's resident Idol critic, Steve Thompson and get his rankings from nine to numero uno! Here's Steve's review of last night's show . . .
If you've tuned into WBKR during our annual St. Jude Radiothon or if you came to our Taste of Country concert in 2011, you likely have heard or seen the country music trio Straight Laced. Their lead singer is Jenny Beth Willis. Recently, I was snooping around on YouTube and, strangely enough, came across some video of Jenny Beth doing one of my favorite songs currently on the charts. It's Miranda Lambert's "Over You." Take a look . . .
Yes, I know. This is a completely random question. And, yes! I know. It's SO twenty-three years ago. Do you remember the movie Steel Magnolias? I'm sure you do. Dolly Parton played a hairdresser named Truvy and, at a certain point in the film, she gets asked about one of her famous recipes. That recipe is called Cuppa Cuppa Cuppa. Olympia Dukakis' character, Clairee, wants Truvy to give her the recipe and Truvy says, "You don't need a recipe. It's just a cup of flour, a cup of sugar and a cup of fruit cocktail with the syrup. Stir and bake in a hot oven until golden brown and bubbly." So, Thursday morning on the WBKR Waking Crew, Nashville Kat, Moon and I wondered . . . does this REALLY work?
It's apparent Taylor Swift is going in a bold new direction with her contributions to the upcoming The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond soundtrack. If you heard her collaboration with The Civil Wars, "Safe and Sound" and though, eh, maybe a little too weird, then I think "Eyes Open" will improve your attitude.
Miranda Lambert's latest single "Over You" is a very personal song for her and husband, Blake Shelton. The song is about Blake's late brother. The video is beautiful and very emotional. Get your tissues ready and check it out here.
Well, as you know Miranda Lambert and Chris Brown have been going round and round in the press. It all stems from Chris Brown's appearance on the Grammys and Miranda thinking that was inappropriate and tweeting about it. Then, Brown tweeted back at her. Well, take a look at how it has spilled over into the concert arena. But, Miz Kizzy called in today to tell us her opinion of how Mr. Brown better watch out!
In 2009, hip-hop star Chris Brown was arrested and charged with assault after beating up his then-girlfriend, pop superstar Rihanna. Flash forward three years and, whaddya know, Brown is performing not once, but twice on the Grammy Awards telecast.
So, as most of y'all know, Miranda Lambert is by far my favorite country artist. And, you also know that I have a slightly crazy 2 1/2 year old little girl named Carsyn. Well, combine my two loves and this is what you get!! With an ending that only a toddler could come up with! ;)
Husband and wife team Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton held hands while performing ‘America the Beautiful’ together before the kickoff of Super Bowl 2012. It was a show of solidarity, and perhaps a way to calm each other’s nerves, as the couple sang while the whole country watched. Many performers before them have flubbed when singing songs at sporting events, but Lambert and Shelton delivered a mistake-free rendition dosed with a little country twang.
