Taylor Swift Car to Debut at Kansas NASCAR Race

I mentioned in Friday's NASCAR preview of today's race, Taylor Swift was moving into the Cup Race in a  big way.

The country diva's marketing plan for her album 'Red' has included pizza boxes and commercials for Target, but now, the singer will help get fans revved up at the Hollywood Casino 400 of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series later today. You can hear the action on WBKR 92.5 and wbkr.com starting at noon.

NASCAR’s in Kansas

Weekend Preview: Hollywood Casino 400

On a country music note, Juan Montoya’s car this weekend will be red-but not for his usual Target sponsorship but for Taylor Swift’s new album “Red.” The deluxe edition of her fourth studio album, Red, will be available exclusively at Target and Target.com nationwide on Oct. 22, just one day after the big race. His traditionally red racecar will be painted stark white with bright red detailing, and features the artwork from Taylor 's Red CD cover.

Following last week’s Sprint Cup Series homecoming in Charlotte, the series is back on the road this weekend for the Hollywood Casino 400. After Wednesday and Thursday test sessions, drivers and teams may be thinking like Dorothy and saying “We aren’t in Kansas anymore.”

Under the Lights at Charlotte

Blake Smith is here with

Weekend Preview: Bank of America 500

For the first time since the 1979 Southern 500, there will not be an Earnhardt in the Sprint Cup Series field. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has been sidelined for the next 2 weeks due to a concussion he received last Sunday in the Talladega race. Regan Smith will replace Earnhardt both this week at Charlotte and next week at Kansas. Smith, who was scheduled to make his debut in James Finch’s #51 this weekend has been replaced by A.J. Allmendinger in that machine. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has told reporters that he plans to not be at the track this weekend.

Darrell Waltrip Among 5 of the Best Smackdowns in NASCAR History

On Sunday at Talladega, defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champ Tony Stewart set off a 25-car wreck, which somehow Matt Kenseth avoided, allowing him to come away with the win under caution. Fortunately this huge pile-up didn't lead to any infield confrontations, but quite often they do. According to Tom Barrabi, our TSM Interactive buddy, the NASCAR circuit has produced its fair share of high-profile feuds over the years (many involving Stewart). Most of the time, these disputes are settled with a few choice words and some mild jostling. On the other hand, it's never a huge surprise when two drivers come to blows after trading paint. Here's a look at a few of NASCAR's most memorable confrontations:

WBKR NASCAR Preview – Advocare 500

Following an exciting race at Bristol on Saturday night, the Sprint Cup Series will stay in the Southeast for this Sunday night’s Advocare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Originally called Atlanta International Raceway, the 1.5 mile track held it’s first NASCAR event in 1970 where Fireball Roberts won the race from the pole position. The track was renamed Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1990.

It has been reported this week that Martin Truex, Jr. has agreed to a contract extension with Michael Waltrip and primary sponsor, Napa Auto Parts. A press conference that will include the unveiling of the 2013 paint scheme is scheduled for Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The details of the extension will also be announced on Friday.

NASCAR Cup Race Preview – Pure Michigan 400

WBKR NASCAR Preview: Pure Michigan 400

After a weekend of both left and right turns, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will make their 2nd visit of the season at Michigan International Speedway, the sight of this weekend’s event. NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be trying to defend his title at Michigan after going to victory lane in the June event.

Last week’s winner, Marcos Ambrose set a qualifying record at the 2-mile oval in June with a speed of over 203 MPH. Since then, drivers and teams have returned to the track for a Goodyear tire test where NASCAR tested and developed a new tire for this weekend’s event. Speeds are expected to be slower this weekend due to the tire compound change and wear on the track’s repaved asphalt. Can he make it two in a row? Marcus told Fox News, “We really got a good shot at it there. We have to really concentrate on car speed”.

Tricky Triangle — Pocono NASCAR Preview

WBKR NASCAR Preview: Pennsylvania 400 by Blake Smith and Moon Mullins

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will make its 2nd trip of the season to the “Tricky Triangle” at Pocono in Long Pond, Pennsylvania for this weekend’s Pennsylvania 400. Joey Logano visited victory lane back in June after a late race battle with veteran, Mark Martin. This will also mark the 2nd trip since it was repaved during the off season.

Drivers and teams have had a busy week following Sunday’s race at the Brickyard. 28 drivers and teams visited the Michigan Speedway for a tire test on Monday. Top speeds at the end of the straight-aways topped 210 MPH with average speeds of 195 MPH. Tony Stewart took a break from the track and put developmental driver, Danica Patrick in his #14 Chevrolet in Monday’s test session. Danica continued her week of bad luck at the Brickyard when she made contact with the wall in the 2nd turn, early in the test session.
