Cops, firefighters, ribs? Texas Roadhouse in Owensboro will be hosting a "Fire vs. Police" Rib-Eating contest Monday night (June 18th) at 5:00pm. Five OPD officers will face off against five Owensboro Firefighters and the winning team (each member must consume a half slab of ribs, bones bare!) will win an all-expenses paid feast catered by Texas Roadhouse.
My dad was the ultimate rubber-necker. You know how most people, due to simple human nature, will slow down or stop if they see a wreck or a fire? Dad would actually get out of the car to get a closer look--in some cases, a MUCH closer look. That was usually because he knew most of the police or fire department. Nonetheless, that was no excuse--in my opinion--for a stunt he pulled on U.S. 431 just south of Owensboro when I was a little kid.
A very long time ago, I was driving to work. It was late; I was working thirds. As I was driving through town, I noticed that every fire hydrant I passed was open and spewing water all over the street. I don't remember who was on the air at the time, but he didn't seem to be too concerned when I told him. So as soon as I got on the air, I announced that hydrants all over town had exploded. I was young, very young.
