In March, 1963, I was working at my first country station, KLLL, in my hometown of Lubbock, TX. The tragic news of Patsy Cline's death in a plane crash near Dyersburg, TN., came as such a shock. She, at the time, was country music's biggest female star. Also, passing away were country singers Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. Now, we've learned from Taste of Country that Patsy is the subject of an upcoming exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Patsy Cline: Crazy for Loving You will open in the museum’s East Gallery on Aug. 24, signing rent for a ten-month run.

Today marks the 49th anniversary of the death of Country singers Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins. The private plane they were in crashed near Dyersburg, Tennessee, March 3, 1963. Also perishing was pilot Randy Hughes.

Patsy was at the top of her career at her death. Her life was portrayed in two films, Coal Miner's Daughter, the story of her friendship with Loretta Lynn. The second is Sweet Dreams, titled after one of Patsy's hits and starring Jessica Lange.

I like famous people's homes. I do. It kind of sneaked up on me, but it's true. When I was a kid, my parents took me to President Harry Truman's home in Independence, Missouri. I had a great time! On the same trip, we visited President Dwight Eisenhower's home in Abilene, Kansas. Loved it. I mean, here I was an 8-year-old boy walking through houses where actual PRESIDENTS spent a great deal of their private time. How was that possible? Even today, I get a kick out of it. And now a country legend's Virginia digs will be available for touring. I guess it's time to make plans.

Blake Shelton is hosting a special on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio in which he selects his all-time Top 10 country voices. Currently, the list can only be found in alphabetical order, and I keep missing the special. I find the list very interesting. There are obvious choices like George Jones and his lovely wife, Miranda Lambert. I mean, come on, she has to be there, right? I kind of think she'd be on it anyway. But the reason the list is fascinating to me is the inclusion of Con Hunley.
