Fundraiser for Rollie Pike TONIGHT in Whitesville

Tonight is going to be an awesome night in Whitesville. We are going to be Raisin' 4 Rollie! Our buddy Rollie Pike is battling a rare disorder that attacks his vital organs and he is in desperate need of a kidney transplant . . . a transplant that WILL happen in June, thanks to the fact that a first cousin of his has just been confirmed a donor match! This is tremendous news for all of Rollie's family and friends and we are getting together to celebrate and raise money for this guy who would truly do anything for anyone.

If you've ever tuned in for the final stretch of our annual St. Jude Radiothon you have more than likely heard our good friend Rollie Pike. Rollie, who way back in the day won our 5th season of Goldie's Survivor, has become a true friend to WBKR-FM. Personally speaking, Rollie is a great friend of mine and truly one of my favorite people on this planet. And that is no exaggeration. I simply cannot put into words what I think of Rollie and how much he means to me on a personal level. This guy is incredible. But I can say this . . . easily. Rollie is one the most kindhearted and giving people you will ever encounter. He never hesitates to lend a helping hand and is one those rare guys who will be there you when call, every time you call. Unfortunately, as fate would have it, Rollie's now in need of help himself.

Last Friday, I drove to Wadesville, IN to visit the 3rd grade class at St. Wendel Catholic School. My friend Ryan Nowak teaches there and he asked me to come by and talk to his students about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. See, his students are doing a service project and, for it, chose to raise money for the patients of St. Jude. I decided to share some of my favorite St. Jude stories with the students and introduce them to some of my favorite St. Jude families. I knew this was a great way to show them the importance of what they're doing and how important raising money for the hospital truly is. Well, guess what? These 3rd grade rockstars got amped up and they went to the big Friday night fish fry with buckets in hand!

This week here at WBKR, we are gearing up for our 2013 St. Jude Radiothon presented by Poole's Pharmacy Care. We officially kicked off our St. Jude season with Denim and Diamonds on February 1st at the Theatre Workshop Opryhouse. A handful of local musicians and bands joined us for that event and we raised nearly $4000 in a single night! There was a huge collection of talent on the stage, but we all agree that one singer stole the hearts of everyone in the theatre. As our annual casino night was wrapping up, Jaclyn and I met Show Dog Universal recording artist, Joel Crouse. Joel has some Kentucky ties . . . in fact, his brother and sister both attended college in Louisville. Owensboro Girl Wins "Stand Up & Sing" Contest in Nashville [Video]

This is really cool and this little gal is REALLY good! 12-year-old Kennedy McCollam of Owensboro recently competed in the Stand Up & Sing competition at Belcourt Taps in Nashville. And she won! Here at WBKR, we are very familiar with Jennifer Rudd. She is a local teenager, who also happens to be one of our St. Jude patients you hear from each year on our annual radiothon. We have gotten to know Jennifer over the last couple of years, but we had NO idea she could do this! The recent movie Pitch Perfect featured a "cup" song called "You're Gonna Miss Me" and it has become quite the sensation on YouTube. It seems teenage girls everywhere have been learning it and performing it. Jennifer is right there with them. CHECK THIS OUT! It's pretty unbelievable.
