Here at WBKR, we LOVE giving away prizes. But, we've always wondered what it must be like to be on YOUR side of the contest. We constantly hear listeners say things like, "I never win anything" or "It's nearly impossible to get through on the phone" or "The phones ALWAYS busy!" So, Taunya the Intern and I decided to try a little experiment recently. We ran a contest during the morning show and asked for Caller #92. While I answered the phones to try and get a winner, Taunya got her cell phone and tried to win! And we had cameras rolling. So, just how difficult is it to get through?? WATCH! That quote comes directly from Ella Dreamer, a St. Jude patient who is battling a rare and deadly form of cancer known as adrenalcorticolcarcinoma. If you have tuned into the WBKR/Poole's Pharmacy Care St. Jude Radiothon the last two years, you have heard Ella's story, told by her mother Jeanna, who has become a staple of our broadcasts and annual fundraising mission. The Dreamers continue their battle against childhood cancer and continue to inspire everyone who knows or encounters them with their strength. The latest development in this story . . . Ella continues to survive and she has taken her story to the Internet.

WBKR Pioneer Douglas Hamby Passes Away at 80

WBKR has lost one of its founding fathers. We received news this morning that Douglas Hamby, who served as General Manager of WOMI and helped create WBKR-FM, passed away Sunday at Owensboro Medical Health System. Not only was Douglas a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, he was a leader in the field of broadcasting and all of us here at WBKR owe our careers, at least in some part, to him.

Yesterday at the Christmas Wish office, Jaclyn reached into her bag and noticed that someone had opened her Christmas Tree snack cake, taken a bite, then wrapped it back up and put it back in her bag. Naturally, she accused me! Now, on any given day, there are DOZENS of volunteers our Christmas Wish office. Any single one of them could have reached into Jaclyn's mongrammed 31 Bag and taken out that blasted icing-filled tree of delight. But did she think about the other possibilities??? NO!!!!!!
