Owensboro's Bowl for the Cure is this Thursday and Friday and you what that means!  Dave Spencer, Jaclyn Graves, Steve Horn and I are going to be lacing up our bowling shoes and hitting Diamond Lanes South.  Owensboro's version of Bowl For The Cure has been expanding over the past couple of years and this year's edition is no different!  There are sessions at 5:30pm and 7:30pm on Thursday and Friday and they are FULL!  In fact, WBKR has THREE teams this year and we are all very excited to lace up our shoes and roll some strikes (well, hypothetically speaking!)

Last night, I returned to the WBKR studios to retrieve a power strip that I had used at a live broadcast location. As I approached the back door, I looked down and noticed this little guy, well, gal dangling from a web constructed between the lower part of the door and the outside wall. Upon further inspection, I noticed the chilling and tell-tale red hourglass mark on its belly.

February is one my favorite times of the year here at WBKR.  That's when we get to rally your support to help raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.  For 26 hours over two days, we ask the tri-state to join us in the fight against childhood cancer.  We introduce you various families who have had to hear those words, "Your child has cancer."  Well, I'm quite sad to report that, last month, Jared Daugherty, a former member of the WBKR family, had to hear those words, "Your child has cancer."

You can sure tell when a city's limits are expanding. And, no, I'm not talking about the obvious signs like the actual retail and dining establishments cropping up at a breakneck pace. No I'm talking about...roadkill. Yep, it's a pretty grim indicator, but an indicator nonetheless, as far as I'm concerned. In fact, I'm seeing more and more wildlife within the city and county limits than I have ever seen before--the WBKR parking lot included.

It takes something special to get me out of bed at 5:30am on a Sunday morning.  I spend Monday through Friday waking up at the "behind" crack of dawn, so I like to sleep in on the weekend if I can!  But on Sunday, I pried myself out of my bed and away from my body pillow for something VERY special!  I ventured down to the riverfront in Calhoun to emcee the opening ceremonies of the 14th Annual TREK to benefit the St. Joseph's Peace Mission for Children.  Hundreds joined to bike, walk and run the 13-mile TREK from Calhoun to David Yewell's house on Hwy 56 in West Louisville.  Along the TREK, I caught up with and walked alongside David, the man who dreamed this event years ago and continues to enjoy its growth and success!   In the video, David shares memories of his very first TREK, his thoughts about its evolution, and his commitment to the Peace Mission.

Last week, I had a remote at A PIZZA PALACE on Emory Drive in Owensboro.  The owner of the restaurant, Adam, thought it would be a good idea to have a CHAD vs. PIZZA challenge while I was there.  Now, my friends will tell you that I can flat out throw back some food.  When we go to dinner, I will eat off other people's plates after I am finished with mine.  Not kidding.  But THIS pizza was no ordinary pizza.  It was a 16-inch PIZZA PIE that weighed over 7 pounds!  It's cooked like a pie, stuffed with mozarella and provolone cheeses and the toppings you ask for!  Of course, like an idiot, I ordered pepperoni, bacon, ham and ONIONS (Wth???)!!   But my tapeworm and I were ready!  (And, yes, I have a tapeworm, or at least I pretend to so I have an excuse for being able to eat so much!)  Let the "challenge" begin!!!
