Hiring additional help leading up to the holiday season is a common practice, but Target stores plan to outdo themselves.

The retail giant announced it would increase its workforce by about 100,000 employees for the holidays.

According to CNBC, that's a 40% increase from last year's bump of 70,000 employees.

Seasonal hiring isn't scheduled to start until October 13th, but I called the Owensboro Target to find out more and the first thing the automated voice said was, "We are now hiring."

The Target distribution centers will also boost their employee count by 4,500.

Target also announced it will greatly reduce prices on thousands of goods.

After many years of flat hiring, this is a significant development for the chain.
