I am a huge tennis fan!  In fact, I hate to admit this, but I have probably spent 15 to 30% of my total lifetime on a tennis court, in a tennis stadium, or in front of a television with a tennis court on it.  I got addicted to tennis in the early 80's when Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert were going head-to-head in one of the greatest rivalries in the history of sports, when Yannick Noah thrilled his countrymen and won the 1983 French Open and when Jimmy Connors took out John McEnroe to win the 1982 Wimbledon title.  And today, I am just as hooked as I was then.  Serena Williams.  Novak Djokovic.  Maria Sharapova.  And Roger Federer, the greatest player of all-time!  So, where am I going with this?  We may be getting a brand new indoor tennis facility right here in Owensboro!

The Owensboro-Daviess County Tennis Association (ODCTA) is currently fundraising for a proposed indoor tennis facility. In partnership with the City of Owensboro, they are attempting to raise enough money to build a 6-court facility to open in late 2013.  I can tell you, from personal experience, the winter months can kill a tennis game.  When I was kid I seriously used to throw on Isotoner gloves and go to the outdoor courts with my friends.  In 20 degree weather!  Not ideal playing conditions!  But playing tennis indoors is most definitely ideal.

The fundraising goal is $1,350,000.00.  Currently, donations total just over $200,000.  So, ODCTA is looking for additional assistance.  To check out the different fundraising levels and see a really cool rendering of the proposed site, CLICK HERE!
