When I was growing up, I never heard of anyone with gluten/wheat intolerance. I'm sure it existed, but no one, even the medical community didn't talk about it. Be that as it may, a lot of foods today, particularly snack foods, bear the label of  "gluten-free". However, for the gluten-intolerant, dining out or, say eating at an office potluck, could be an unpleasant experience. I found out about Nima, the senor that detects gluten in food. This is a real product, take a look!

The Nima Sensor was developed by 6Sensor Labs in San Francisco and they intend to develop other senors for peanuts, shellfish, soy, dairy, etc. This all seems kind of fancy, but if you take some food and jam it in the sensor, maybe it isn't so dignified. I also thought if I had no idea about the product, I would have thought it was a 'Saturday Night Live' commercial parody.

Nima Sensors are available for pre-order; Merry Christmas!
