I grew up with a history teacher for a father. Now my sister is a history teacher. Although I didn't end up following that path, I'm always ready for a trip that has anything to do with historic places or things. This week, history lovers will be able to visit with two historical ships returning to town for the first time in three years.

Replicas of Christopher Columbus' ships the Nina and the Pinta will be docked at English Park beginning this Friday and they will remain in town for visitors until Sunday, August 12th. The ships are currently making the trip from Grand Rivers and then they will move on to Louisville after their stay downtown on the river.

The ships make appearances along the coasts from Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama to places inland in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

According to the Columbus Foundation, more than 5 million people have visited the ships in the past 25 years, the Nina is the most historically accurate replica ship ever built. The original, of course, was built without the use of modern tools or technology.

Both ships will be open to public 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily and general admission is $8.50, $7.50 for seniors, and $6.50 for ages 4-15. Children 4 and under are free with a paying adult.

30-minute guided tours with a crew member are available. Groups of 15 or more, tickets are $5.00; you can book a tour HERE or call 1-787-672-2152.
