I've been working in radio for roughly 16 years. When I took my first Radio Broadcasting (DJ) class at WKU, I learned I needed to pick out an on-air alias. Some of the upperclassmen had great on-air names like Lovely Rita, Filer, and Isis. Yes, Isis, but as in the Greek Isis. I'm going to share with you now my only other on-air names I've used throughout the years. Oh boy.

At one point in college, way before I ever decided on a major, me and a couple of my friends were really into the Sex Pistols. It all started when they showed me the rockumentary The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle, which jokingly tells the story of how the band got together and then highlights their short-lived career. I would share a clip, but the film is rated R bordering on NC-17. Sid Vicious was a character and he eventually died of a drug overdose in 1979. So, I chose my first on-air name. "Sid V"; I'm not sure if anyone ever got it, but I eventually modified it into "Sidney V" for my final year on the air at Western. Note: I'll have to share some of my airchecks from back then sometime, oh they are quite interesting. Moving on.

Okay, this is the late hotelier Leona Helmsley aka the Queen of Mean. I want to make it clear, this Leona did NOT pop into my head when I came up with idea of my Leona. To be honest, it's just a name that came to me, it had no significance whatsoever. I was told a few things. Merle Haggard was once married to a Leona and Sawyer Brown had this song.

If you remember "Leona" the name had the variation "Luscious Leona" which I also did not come up with! I think one of my co-workers, or a listener added it. A fan, well, she's a friend of the family, gave me this big oversized t-shirt with Luscious emblazoned on it. I'm not making any of this up.

When I came to WBKR in 2007, I just decided to keep it simple. Erin Grant. And that's the rest of the story.
